New Bern Surgical Associates, PA is a group
of five board-certified surgeons specializing in general, oncologic, vascular
and advanced laparoscopic surgeries as well as skin cancer screening and
treatment. The surgeons are:
Richard E. Morgan, M.D., F.A.C.S. – Dr. Morgan graduated from Bowman Gray
School of Medicine-North Carolina Baptist Hospital in 1973 and did his
internship and surgical residency at Wake Forest University from 1973 to 1978.
Dr. Morgan has practiced with New Bern Surgical Associates, PA since 1978.
Harry H. Ballard, M.D., F.A.C.S. – Dr. Ballard graduated from West
Virginia University School of Medicine in 1971 and did his internship at Albert
B. Chandler Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky from 1971 to 1972. Dr. Ballard was a
General Medical Officer in the Navy from 1972 to 1975. He did his surgical
residency at North Carolina Memorial Hospital, Chapel Hill, NC from 1975 to
1980. Dr. Ballard also has a Fellowship in Vascular Surgery from the Good
Samaritan Hospital in Phoenix, Arizona. He served in Desert Storm from 1990 to
1991. He has been with New Bern Surgical Associates, PA since 1982.
Henry Curtis Mostellar, III, M.D., F.A.C.S. – Dr. Mostellar graduated
from University of South Alabama College of Medicine in 1983 and did his
internship and surgical residency at Bowman Gray School of Medicine-North
Carolina Baptist Hospital from 1983 to 1989. From 1990 to 1991, Dr. Mostellar
served as a Captain in the United States Army Medical Corp during Operation
Desert Storm. He has been with New Bern Surgical Associates, PA since 1989.
David L. Harshman, M.D., F.A.C.S. – Dr. Harshman graduated from
Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in 1985 and did his internship and
surgical residency at State University of New York School of Medicine from 1985
to 1990. He served in the Navy from 1981 to 1994. He has been with New Bern
Surgical Associates, PA since 1994.
Caroline A. Paul, M.D., F.A.C.S. – Dr. Paul graduated from Columbia
University College of Physicians and Surgeons in 1994 and did her internship and
surgical residency at St. Louis University Hospital from 1994 to 1999. She has
been with New Bern Surgical Associates, PA since 1999.
All of the above surgeons with New Bern Surgical Associates, PA are diplomats of
the American Board of Surgeons, members of the North Carolina Medical Society,
and fellows of the American College of Surgeons.
As of October 13, 2008, we welcome to our staff Dr. James O. Johnson. Dr.
Johnson received his medical degree from Saba University and completed a general
surgery residency in Greenville, NC at East Carolina University. He then
finished a fellowship in advanced laparoscopy, endoscopy and ultrasound at St.
Vincent’s and Indiana University in Indianapolis, IN this year. His surgical
interests include basic and advanced laparoscopic surgery, endocrine surgery,
surgical oncology and endoscopy including advanced biliary procedures such as
ERCP.
